I paint vibrant bold landscapes inspired by Malta, and create bespoke commissioned paintings for those who wish to preserve a place, memory, or moment.
What would you like to do?
For over 7,000 years, Malta has been a crossroads of civilisations. Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Knights of St John, the British. Each era left its mark in the limestone streets, baroque churches, and painted wooden balconies.
Cynthia's paintings are acts of preservation - a record of Mediterranean life, of feasts and fishing boats, of an island that survived everything and remained, impossibly, beautiful.
Older than Stonehenge. Malta's first civilisation carved its story in limestone that still stands.
The Knights of St John built Valletta - a fortress city that became one of Europe's most beautiful capitals.
Malta held under the heaviest WWII bombing. Awarded the George Cross. The Opera House fell silent.
In the festa fireworks, the painted balconies, the golden lamplight - Malta endures and shines.
Designed by Edward Middleton Barry - architect of London's Royal Opera House - this was one of the finest theatres in the Mediterranean. Families gathered on its steps on warm Valletta evenings.
On April 7th 1942, a German bomb reduced it to rubble. Cynthia paints it as it was: alive, luminous, a world before the bomb fell.
Walking the narrow streets - archways, balconies, shadows between buildings
The churches, the feasts, the traditions woven into island life
The luzzus, the rocky coves, the harbour that has sheltered sailors for thousands of years
Beyond the ancient stones - the force and colour of life today
In sunlit doorways, on warm evenings - the pets who make a house a home
Cynthia paints not just the likeness but the life — the warmth, the mischief, the love that makes each animal irreplaceable. Every portrait is painted from your own photographs and delivered as a one-of-a-kind original.
Commission a PortraitFollow the process — new paintings as they emerge, the light that inspired them, and the stories behind the commission.
Valletta's most beloved ruin has been painted many times. This version captures the late-afternoon light as it floods through the bare stone arches — a quiet moment in a loud city.
Enquire about this workThe commission arrived with a single photo and a simple request: make it feel like it did on summer evenings. That phrase sat with me for two days before I touched the canvas.
Commission your homeThe limestone here is not pale or pastel — it is warm, almost amber in the right light. Oil paint is the only medium that lets me do that justice. A reflection on medium and place.
